Spirit Week started on October 21st, and the Comsewogue community showed its excitement and participated in school pride. Following interviews throughout the week, students showed their enthusiasm for homecoming and were able to show their creativity by dressing up. It also followed how some seniors felt about it being their last homecoming.
The first day of Spirit Week was Red, White, and Blue Day. Students showed their patriotism by having their faces painted as the American flag. Interviewee Ryan Schnepf participated in the face painting of the American flag and had his patriotic outfit on. Senior Sophia Deja wore an American flag cape. This showed the community that Comsewogue is filled with patriotism.
The Second day of spirit week was Character Day which is a lot of students' favorite. Students can dress as any character they choose and show their creativity. Senior Alexis Ebanks showed her enthusiasm for character day and went all out. She was Lilo from Lilo and Stitch and had Hawaiian attire. She wore a Hawaiian flower headband as well as flower bracelets. She says, “I am such a big fan of school spirit.”
The third day was Decades Day. Students went back in time and dressed up as different decades such as the 90s or even the Stone Age. Students wore low-rise jeans to show the 2000s, flared jeans to show the 70s, or cavemen outfits for the Stone Age period. Interviewee Jace Mas wore a caveman outfit and quoted, “Seeing everyone be able to get together for the community” about being asked what he was looking forward to for homecoming. Decades Day also shows students creativity by showing different patterns, different styles, different hair, etc.
The fourth day was Jersey vs. Jersey Shore. Students could either wear team jerseys or dress up as characters from the show “Jersey Shore”. Students were excited about this day because “Jersey Shore” became a new theme that wasn’t used for prior spirit weeks. Students also had fun being able to represent their favorite teams or their country’s teams.
The final day of Spirit Week was Color Wars. Students show their class spirit on this day as well as during the pep rally. Freshmen wear yellow, sophomores wear blue, juniors wear white, and seniors wear black or their senior jersey. This day was filled with bittersweet and touching emotions from the Seniors. Sarrah Bissila says, ‘I’m a little bit sad because it’s my last year of high school and we’re not going to experience this again”. Another Senior, Emma Samghabadi said she felt weird about putting on her senior jersey. She said, “Every year we see the other seniors with their senior jerseys and now we’re the ones wearing it.”
Students were so eager to participate and show their school spirit during Spirit Week. We were able to see student’s creativity and enthusiasm for the week and homecoming. Students from each grade were also filled with excitement to see if their grade would win the grade battle. The class that won was the seniors. They were excited about this but were also upset about it being their last spirit week, pep rally, and homecoming.

It was a boo-tiful night here at Comsewogue High School. On October 30th here at Comsewogue we hosted our annual and beloved Trick or Treat Street. Children and adults of all ages came to enjoy this tradition.
The reason most parents love and adore Trick or Treat Street is because they know their kids will be in a safe environment and community. Parents also love how early Trick or Treat Street is because they know where their young kids are. Trick or Treat Street also provides a space for our high school students to be able to express and feature their creativity in different ways.
“Provides a safe place for kids to go trick or treating without having to walk around on the street,” Senior Kayla Schmit stated. “ It also brings the community closer together”
Trick or Treat Street has been around for many years here at Comsewogue High School. Trick or Treat streets came to be because we figured that if parents know that their kids are in a safe environment and safe community they know their kids can still get candy and enjoy Halloween without being in the streets.
“The community feels safe while providing a nice safe fun atmosphere for students and children to actually go trick or treating” Mr. Rovello revealed.
The process and time that goes into making this whole thing come to life really is amazing. Usually, most clubs will have meetings over the course of time to sit and come up with a theme. It really is a nice bonding experience and a fun thing to participate in when trying to decorate. That decoration really helps the students here at Comsewogue express themselves in the creative aspect.
“Usually it takes around a month or two to put everything together,” said Honors Art Society student Jessica Colon. “It also allows creative students in the High School to allow other clubs and honors societies to make nice decorations, tents, and art for the school”.
The kids loved the night and they had so much fun, they played with the therapy dog that we have here at Comsewogue High School “Kids are just to have fun and get some candy out of it”.

Have you ever wanted a chance to be on stage or help out behind the scenes? Well, there are multiple opportunities for any Theatre Kids out there, like Student Drama. With Student Drama anyone of any grade from Freshmen to Seniors can join to be in the cast or work backstage on the crew.
Student Drama is a student-run club where there are two student directors Gab Blouin and Annmarie Kosak choose the fall show and direct a whole cast of Students ranging from Freshmen to Seniors.
When asked about how being a student drama director is, Annmarie said, “Being a director is great, we're both enjoying it a lot.” Also when asked about any advice for any incoming freshmen who are thinking about joining the club Gab Blouin said, “With drama, all of your hard work will pay off”.
Both Gab and Annmarie also work with the advisor of Student Drama Rebecca Hershon. She is an overseer of the whole club and helps both of the directors pick the show and apply for rights to the show. Also, she gives her input on what happens on stage and behind the scenes because she also is the advisor for the crew.
When asked about how the rehearsal process was for their fall show Almost Maine, Hershon said “ The rehearsal process is going well for our current show”.
Also, even the stage manager position is run by a student. Senior Maddie Dobias has been stage managing and lighting the shows for not just student drama, but the mainstage productions and even the performing arts classes. Ever since she was a freshman.
When asked about her favorite part of being a stage manager Maddie said, “My favorite part of being a stage manager is the fact that I get to with the cast and the crew, you know it’s a unique experience to be on both sides, and I really love the people I work with so it makes it a lot more entertaining”.
Senior Bridget Myers has been doing the shows at Comsewogue ever since she was a freshman and last year she even directed student drama shows like last year 12 Angry Jurors and The Wizard Of Oz.
When asked about her favorite part of Student Drama rehearsals Bridget said, “My favorite part of rehearsals is probably the sense of community that we have”. Also when asked about her favorite part of the actual student drama experience Bridget also said “My favorite part of the actual club is definitely Performance night”.
Sophomore Olivia Harvey has been involved with the drama productions in the high school since she joined as a freshman last year.
When asked what she likes about Student Drama she said “During school, I’m always looking forward to like student drama or mainstage drama and it's really just so fun and I think it's just a great place to meet a lot of nice people with similar interests and just creative and talented people”.
