Starting in October of this year, Comsewogue High School introduced a new attendance system to keep track of students throughout the day. The new system uses ID scanners from a company called MOOV and is designed to make attendance more accurate and efficient.
With the MOOV system, students now scan their IDs when entering or leaving the building. This allows the school to know where students are supposed to be and ensures that everyone is accounted for. The system was implemented to improve organization and reduce confusion during the school day.
“One of our main goals is student safety,” said Dr. Mosca, the school principal. “The MOOV system helps us know where students are and allows us to respond quickly if there is an issue.”
Students have also been adjusting to the change. While it took some time to get used to scanning IDs, many students now say the process is quick and simple. The scanners are easy to use, and staff members are always nearby to assist if someone has a problem.
“The ID scanners will surely benefit the staff, but I don’t think students will like them very much,” said Anthony Martino, a Comsewogue student.
Before implementing the system, the school spent time training staff to make sure the transition would go smoothly. Since October, the system has already shown positive results by improving attendance tracking and minimizing errors.
“We started out with different schools where we were able to learn and had a lot of success,” said Kevin Camson, the creator of the MOOV system.
Overall, the MOOV ID scanner system is helping Comsewogue High School create a more organized and secure environment. As students and staff continue to get used to the new technology, the school looks forward to seeing even more benefits throughout the year.
“The goal is always keeping kids in the classroom as much as possible,” said Dr. Mosca. The new system is another step toward making Comsewogue High School a safer and more efficient place.

Towards the beginning of each school year, Comsewogue High School runs an elective fair in order to display all of the possible courses available to the students. With the help of admin, staff, and passionate students currently enrolled in these electives, other students have the ability to learn about possible careers or pathways they can later pursue.
The admin at Comsewogue are determined to make this event as beneficial as possible for the student body. Dr. Mosca, the school principal, shares his perspective on why the elective fair is so impactful for the community.
“ Our goal is to have courses where no matter what your interests are, whatever your passions are," Mosca stated, "we have a course that will fit it.”
Many Students also recognize the importance of these courses and how the skills they learn now will help them get a head start on their future education and careers. Senior student Kayla Seale shares how the college health professions course has done so for her.
“And another is college health professions.” She states, “I have learned a lot about the career I want to go into, and I thought it was a very fun class.”
Even though this is a highly beneficial experience for students, picking the right courses can be a difficult task. Comsewogue High School offers many different electives, and it is important that students learn to distinguish which classes are most instrumental for their goals. Another student, Ava Gelber, discussed how she was able to narrow down which classes were best for her.
“ Over the past 3 years, talking to the people who have already taken the class and learning about it has helped me make my decision.”
When asked about what he felt were the most beneficial courses to take, Dr. Mosca stated, “ It’s all dependent on what you want to go into… I’m going to leave out so many because we have hundreds, but really just an endless amount of courses for an endless amount of interests.”

Trick or Treat Street is hosted by Comsewogue High School and runs with the help of school clubs, teachers, and students. The event that was once held in classrooms and hallways is now held in the school cafe, where clubs decorate and hand out candy to create a safe indoor alternative to traditional trick-or-treating.
The main reason the event exists is safety. By keeping the celebration inside the school, families can enjoy Halloween without worrying about traffic, strangers, or unsafe neighborhoods, while still giving kids a fun experience.
“It’s designed to be a safe trick or treat experience for the younger generation,” said Mr. Rovello. The annual event takes place each fall and invites younger children and families into the school for a structured Halloween celebration.
“This is the first club I ever ran,” stated Mr. Carannate. The event holds personal importance. showing how long Trick or Treat Street has been part of the school and how committed staff members are to keeping it going.
Running an event of this size takes a lot of planning. Mr. Rovello explained that “one of the biggest challenges running Trick or Treat Street is the coordination required.” With many clubs involved, organizing the event takes teamwork and preparation.
Mrs. Hirko spoke about how the event has improved over time, saying, “The way it’s run now is better than the past.” Adjustments in organization have helped the event run more smoothly for everyone involved.
She also mentioned how the event brings groups together, explaining, “It’s nice to come together in a cohesive environment for a big event because clubs are usually separated.” Trick or Treat Street gives clubs a chance to collaborate.
Overall, Trick or Treat Street continues to be a meaningful tradition at Comsewogue High School. It provides a safe Halloween experience for younger children, brings school clubs together, and allows students and staff to give back to the community.

Once a year, Comsewogue High School’s Business Academy hosts a Freshman Career Day to introduce ninth-grade students to possible future career paths. This event gives students the opportunity to learn about different professions and understand how those careers play a role in today’s world. On this day, professionals from across the community visited the school to speak with students and share their real-world experiences.
Throughout the day, students rotated through different presentations where guest speakers discussed their jobs, education paths, and daily responsibilities. These hands-on lectures allowed freshmen to ask questions and gain insight into careers they may not have previously considered.
“It is very beneficial because ninth-grade students get to experience hands-on lectures and experience from professionals in the area,” says business teacher Ms. Katyal, explaining the importance of the event.
Members of the Business Academy also helped make the event run smoothly. Upperclassmen assisted by monitoring classrooms and supporting the guest speakers as they arrived.
Business Academy member Nico Davis described his role, stating, “My job was to watch the classes and make sure the kids are paying attention to the guest speakers, as well as hand out packets to the speakers as they arrived.” The academy members' involvement ensured that both students and professionals had a positive experience.
Freshmen who attended the Career Day found the experience both educational and enjoyable. Many appreciated the chance to learn alongside their peers in a relaxed environment.
Freshman AJ Davis shared his thoughts, saying, “My favorite part of the career fair was hanging out with my friends, seeing what they are interested in, and learning about future opportunities for myself.”
Overall, the Freshman Career Day hosted by the Comsewogue Business Academy was a successful and informative event. It provided students with valuable knowledge about future career options while connecting them with members of the community. Events like this help prepare students for the future and will continue to be an important part of the Comsewogue experience.
