Class overviews
Theatre 1: Introduction to Theatre is a performance based class designed to teach theatre basics in fun ways through creative play and improvisation. The class will help students rid themselves of their inhibitions, trust their instincts, explore their own talent and build relationships as they work with others. The class will train students for high school, college and professional work.
Theatre 2: Advanced Theatre is designed for students who have completed Introduction to Theatre and wish to continue their training in a director’s role. Students will work with Theatre 1 students in a Theatre 1 class. Students will work as leaders in the theatre program and will learn how to manage casts and produce shows. This class will give more responsibility to students and encourage them to provide feedback and criticism.
Stagecraft 1: Introduction to Stagecraft is a hands-on project-based class designed to teach production basics through research, design and building. The class will teach students all aspects of stagecraft including lighting, sound, costume and set. Students will have the opportunity to design and create their own projects. The class will train students for high school, college and professional work.
Stagecraft 2: Advanced Show Design is a class for students who have completed Stagecraft I. Advanced Designers will have the ability to move at their own pace and create their own designs and projects. Advanced Designers have the option of participating in class projects or can tailor the class to meet their own interests as they develop in technical theatre. Students will have the opportunity to design and create their own projects. The class will train students for high school, college and professional work.
Forensics 1 and 2: Forensics is a competition-based class which requires significant work and commitment from team members. Students will learn public speaking, interpretation and debate. Our team is a member of the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) and students will earn points toward their national rankings. All students enrolled in this course are members of The Computech Forensics Team and will be required to join the NSDA. All enrolled students are expected to compete at all middle school level competitions. Students have the option of competing at the high school level. Those competitions fees are not included in the class and will be required for participation.

Participation
This is a participation course. Much of the class time will be dedicated to rehearsing and preparing for performances. Regular attendance and participation in class is required. Students will be graded on their effort and commitment to their projects. Some outside research and study will be required as well as weekend and evening events. Students must be self-motivated and self-directed to use their time correctly and appropriately.
Class Fees
Students are asked to donate $20 to help cover costs. This is not required, simply requested. Class fees will go toward production fees such as royalties, costume rentals, and needed supplies.
Students can buy a Company t-shirt for $10. Shirts can be purchased in the Student Store located in the CTE lab. Shirts can be purchased all year.
Grading
Grades will be based on effort and growth, not talent.
Students will be graded on:
· Rehearsal participation
· Corrections applied
· Completion of assignments
· Performance
Shows
Students are expected to perform in theatre and all final unit grades will be based on performance. Students are expected to be present for all performance dates. Makeup dates cannot be guaranteed. Some performances will be public and dates are inflexible. Students are required to perform for one day in our Spring Show in May.
Distance Learning Expectations
Students are expected to be present when called for class
Videos are only required to be on when participating in activities
Students will abide by all requirements in our contract
If a student is uncomfortable participating on camera during class time they have the option of videoing themselves and sending it to hibler@edisoncomputech.com for credit

The Computech Theatre Company produces 2 shows a year and Stagecraft students are encouraged to participate. If students choose to participate in the shows they are expected to be present for all performance dates as well as crew calls.

Course Description

Regular attendance and participation in class is required. Students will be graded on their effort and commitment to their projects. Some outside research and study will be required as well as weekend and evening tournaments. Students must be self-motivated and self-directed to use their time correctly and appropriately.

Class Fees
Students are asked to donate $30 to help cover costs. This is not required, simply requested. Parents are asked to sign up to provide lunch for the team at one competition this year. The class will cover all Middle School level tournament fees except double entries.
Breakdown of the class fees:
· 6 middle school competitions at $5 an entry: $30
o If a student wishes to double enter they must pay the extra $5.
· Team t-shirt: $10
· NSDA student membership: $10
Grading
· Students must meet 3 event requirements for the year
· Students must complete all in class assignments
· Students must compete in 6 middle school competitions
1. Debate Requirement 200 points
Students are expected to choose a debate partner and compete on a public forum team
Event: Public Forum
· Write and research a full case (both aff and neg)
· Compete at tournaments
· Participate in class mock debates
2. Interpretation Requirement 200 points
Students are expected to choose one interpretation event from the following list: Duo, DI, HI, TI, OPP, OI
· Choose and memorize an interpretation piece
· Participate in theatre training
· Rehearse and block piece
· Compete at tournaments
3. Public Speaking Requirement 200 points
Students are expected to choose one speaking event from the following list: IX, NX, OO, OA, Expository/Informative
· Write a speaking piece
· Memorize and block piece
· Research and rehearse piece
· Compete at tournaments
4. Competitions Requirement 200 points per competition
Students are expected to compete at all middle school tournaments. A student can make up a missed middle school tournament by attending at high school competition in the same quarter. Students must make arrangements with Mrs. Hibler to miss a middle school tournament prior to the date, otherwise no makeup can be given, no exceptions.
Competition dress code:
· Boys: slacks, jacket, button up shirt, tie
· Girls: skirt, dress, slacks
· Colors: black, blue, dark grey
· Hair clean, pulled back, off face
· Modest, conservative appearance, no undergarments showing
Competitions
Middle School
· All competitions are on Thursdays, 3-8:30 PM.
· $5 per entry.
· Competition dress code required.
· Parents will pick up their student at the competition location.
High School
· All high school level competitions are voluntary.
· All competitions are on Saturdays, 7 AM- 6 PM.
· $5 per entry. Students must pay all fees.
· Competition dress code required.
· Student must arrange transportation to and from the competition.
Competition disclaimer: If you have been officially entered to compete and you have not paid the entrance fee and choose not to compete you are required to pay the fee. “Officially entered” means your name and piece have been submitted to the competition and fees have been billed to our team. The list of our team’s official competitors will be submitted 2 days prior to every competition.
