This season with the help of My Spark Denver will be able to provide the best athletic experience possible. What that means student athletes on the team will receive: cleats, home and road jerseys, home and away shorts, socks, shin guards, customized posters, customized warm up gear that can be worn as a uniform at school. The best thing is all of the equipment they receive they will be able to keep all of this at the end of the season. It also will allow us to rent practice facilities and allow us to have 3 days a week of practice time.
My Spark Denver
This season soccer we have an amazing opportunity to partner with My Spark Denver, for qualified students they will provide funding for afterschool activities like sports. This will allow us to do many things. For one provide extra practice time and the best possible equipment for students to have the best athletic experience possible. Students will be asked to fill to apply when they play on the team. More information about My Spark will be provided at the teams mandatory family meeting.
Compass sports choice
All sports are offered at no cost to the student. For each sport there will be a tryout, we try to ensure all students have an opportunity to participate and if they do not make the team we try to provide other opportunities to still participate in that sport.
Each athlete who makes the team must have a physical completed stating that they are medically qualified to participate in athletics. These examinations must be completed annually by a certified physician. Parents/guardians will need to arrange physical examinations and most students can get these completed here at school through Denver Health’s office inside Lincoln High School.
The privilege to participate in Compass Academy’s athletic program requires student athletes to exemplify the qualities of Learners & Leaders - each athlete to be a model for what it means to be a Compass Student, both on the field or court, and also in the hallways and classrooms of Compass. Because of this, students must maintain a standard of behavior, academic performance, and attendance in order to be cleared to participate in an athletic event as a part of a team. Each week, each student athlete will complete the OK to PLAY form that is filled out in each of their classes. To be eligible for game day they must receive an average of 3 on a 1-4 scale to be able to participate in that week's game.
What do I need to do be able to play?
Show up to tryouts and try your best. You will be notified when tryouts take place. Follow instructions around what to wear and what not to wear during tryouts. If there is something you need to play a sport reach out to Mr. Lee and he will help ensure you have everything you need to succeed.
What do I need to do if I make the team?
There is no cost to you to play. However you must complete a sports Physical which can be done here at school through the nurses office. (If you have Denver Health insurance) or at your own doctors office. You must weekly complete an OK to Play form in which your teachers will give you a 1-4 score on your academics and behavior in their class that week and you must average a score 3 or higher to be able to play that following week. You must be at school and attend practice. If you are not at school or you are not participating in school that you are acting as just an athlete. There is a reason you are called a "Student Athlete" you need to be a student first to be an athlete second.

Thank you for trying out
Thank you to all of those who tried out for the boys and girls basketball teams. I appreciate the effort and chance you took coming out. Please continue to play and enjoy the game of basketball. I will be meeting with each of the players that did not make the team on Monday to talk to them about opportunities to still be a part of the team. However if you want to continue to build basketball skills I highly encourage any player that did not make the team to see below about Denver Parks and Rec basketball leagues.
If any students are interested in playing basketball this winter call at 720-865-2180, or go online at denvergov.org/recreation then search for youth sports, or drop by the Athmar Recreation Center.
