Eligibility
The applicant should be an Indian citizen.
The applicant must have obtained a PhD degree from a recognized University. Those who have submitted their PhD thesis and are awaiting award of the degree are also eligible to apply. Those who obtained PhD from IITH are not eligible to apply for IITH-IPDF.
The upper age limit for the fellowship is 35 years at the time of the announcement of the fellowship call, i.e. January 31, 2024.
IITH-IPDF can be availed only once by a candidate in his/her career.
Mentor must be a regular IITH Faculty.
Nature & Duration of Support
The fellowship is only for the research to be carried out in person at IITH. The mentor faculty of IITH will provide necessary administrative and infrastructural support.
The fellowship is a contract assignment and is for a period of 1 year, which may be extended to a maximum of one more year based on a performance review in the 12th month by an expert committee constituted by the competent authority.
All the selected fellows will have to accept and join the fellowship within 30 days of the offer. Failure to do so will automatically terminate the fellowship without any further notice.
The selected fellows will be entitled to receive the monthly stipend of 75,000 INR per month (consolidated).
Accommodation in the IITH hostel will be provided to the fellows. In case of married fellows, accommodation may be provided in MSH, based on availability. No HRA will be paid if a fellow prefers to stay outside the Institute.
There will not be any consideration of change of the Mentor at any stage.
Selection & Mode of Application
The call for applications for IITH-IPDF will be notified through the IITH SRC Office website.
The application form along with a research proposal, CV of the applicant & mentor along with thesis submission certificate and endorsement and undertaking should be submitted online through the website as a single PDF file.
The applicant must identify a suitable Mentor from regular faculty of IITH under whom the proposed research would be carried out. The proposal should be prepared in consultation with the mentor faculty.
The selection will be based on the recommendations of an Expert Committee that will be constituted by the IITH.
A mentor faculty from IITH can provide endorsement to a maximum of two applicants in a round.
After selection, the faculty will be able to mentor only one IITH-IPDF at a time.

Termination of the Fellowship
If any fellow wishes to terminate the fellowship, he/she shall inform the Dean (SRC), IITH through the mentor immediately and leave after a one-month notice.
IITH reserves the right to terminate the Fellowship at any stage if it is convinced that appropriate progress is not being made by the applicant.
Leaves
IITH-IPDFs are entitled to casual leave and medical leave as per rules of the institution. Participation in scientific workshops held in India or abroad will be treated as on duty. Maternity leave as per the Govt. of India instructions issued from time to time would be available to female candidates.
