Purpose of the Elk and Cameron Science Consortium
To bring more STEM opportunities to students within Elk and Cameron County, more specifically middle school students.
To form a collaborative group of STEM educators and community members to help address the needs and goals of informal STEM education
To bring more community awareness of STEM education and how it can meet the workforce needs of our communities
Goals of the Elk and Cameron Science Consortium
Provide experiences in multiple settings that enable young people to build complex skills, including how to design, test and revise solutions to real-world problems, and to work collaboratively with adults and peers.
Connect preK-12 STEM learning, in and out-of-school, to post-secondary and STEM career opportunities.
Increase STEM Literacy by promoting an understanding of the importance of STEM fields in everyday life and encouraging people to make informed decisions related to science and technology.
Match STEM learning pathways to the changing needs of STEM higher education and workforce.
Build STEM Hubs in each local community to serve as hubs for innovation and bringing together students to collaborate on cutting-edge projects.
With STEM careers being in high-demand within Elk and Cameron County, a key purpose of the Science Consortium is to develop a skilled STEM workforce that meets the demands of the local and global economy. This involves aligning education and training programs with the needs of industries in the region.
