Frequently Asked Questions
The vast majority of our job opportunities are in person this year. There are a few remote positions available, however they are extremely limited and first come first serve, so we cannot guarantee a remote position for anyone.
The worksite catalog is only sent out after you've uploaded your documents, received confirmation that you've been enrolled, and completed your 10 Hats & Ladders tasks AND your 1 hour virtual orientation session over Zoom. Most participants do not receive the worksite catalog for a few weeks after they are first selected from the lottery.
You can sign up for direct deposit as soon as you receive our confirmation email of your enrollment! Use our videos above to follow instructions on how to sign up.
No! Your proof of address document only has to match the address you entered on your SYEP application. It can have the the name of anyone currently living in your household.
If you miss your deadline to upload your documents the system will automatically place you back into the lottery and we will no longer be able to enroll you. We have no control over who the lottery picks and have no way of knowing if you will be picked again. This is why it's so important to upload your documents before the deadline! Please keep a careful eye on your email in case you are picked again so you can upload your documents on time and be safely enrolled.
If you are a part of Cohort A, you will be participating in SYEP from July 5th to August 12th. Most of our participants are in Cohort A. If you could not start on July 5th then we may have moved you to Cohort B, which means you will participate in SYEP from July 10th to August 19th. Both cohorts still run exactly 6 weeks, receive exactly the same job catalog, and are paid exactly the same. Unless you have been specifically told you will be starting on July 10th with Cohort B, you are most likely a Cohort A participant.
Unfortunately for those aged 16-24, SYEP can only pay you for actual days worked. We do not offer any sick or make up hours. Please make sure you communicate with your supervisor as soon as you know you will be missing work.
SYEP does not have a proof of vaccination requirement. However, worksites in NYC are allowed to ask for proof of vaccination and may turn you away if you cannot provide it.
You may not have worked your full 25 hours. Please keep in mind that all hours must be approved by your worksite supervisor and any inaccuracies will be corrected. Additionally, standard taxes are taken out of your weekly paycheck. If you still believe you have been paid incorrectly, please reach out to us.
