The Columbus Academy's mission statement points to the importance of community service in developing responsible citizens. In order to achieve this goal the school has established a service graduation requirement to expose students to volunteer opportunities as a path to extended community service and as a means to introduce students to the needs of others locally and globally.
The Columbus Academy Service Board is open to all high schoolers, and promotes this mission of service. The Service Board hosts service events, has weekly meetings to discuss CA service and evaluate proposals, and has an advisory board of Shapers. Service Board members are bound by contract and led by two seniors who are elected annually by the US student body.

An act of service reflects generosity of time, resources,
and energy. It is an investment of self
– spirit, body, and mind –
in helping to meet the needs of others.
