The Board of Education recognizes and values parents/families as children's first teachers/decision-makers in education. The Board believes that student learning is more likely to occur when there is an effective partnership between the school, community, and the student's parents /family. Such a partnership between schools, communities and greater involvement of parents in the education of their children generally result in higher academic achievement, improved student behavior, and reduced absenteeism. When parents have a sense of connection with schools and communities who care about them, it provides a sense of security and confidence. Involvement of community members in schools can improve the overall quality of education that students receive. Having these kinds of connections allows families to share the joy, pain, and uncertainties that come with the parenting role.
