About Us

The Columbus City Schools Digital Academy (CCSDA)

Columbus City Schools created the Digital Academy during the 2020-21 school year to provide a fully comprehensive K-12 online learning option for families seeking a safe, self-paced, learning environment for their children. This online opportunity provides an alternative for students to desire to learn at their own pace in the safety and comfort of their own home or other environment. Instruction is provided through curriculum specifically designed for online learning and supported by CCS teachers, administrators, and staff.

Student Expectations

Students are responsible for their attendance and their learning and should plan to log in daily to document attendance and to complete assignments. Students are expected to log in to the Student Portal by 11:00 pm Monday-Friday to be counted for attendance. Both curriculum platforms, Apex and Edgenuity, provide pacing guides for course completion. Students may work at their own pace but, we recommend students plan to spend 4-6 hours, on average per day completing assignments to stay on track.

Upon enrollment, students are assigned a Mentor and Teacher of Record for support. Students who attend Zoom sessions and office hours have a higher success rate with their course completion. It is highly recommended that students attend office hours and support sessions weekly for success. Mentor and Teacher of Record contact information can be found below.

Elementary Grading

CCS uses a standards-based grading system. Instead of traditional letter grades, elementary students earn a score. Scores represent students' progress with their learning and are determined by each students' level of mastery within Edgenuity; not by percentages. Teachers of Record determine students' scores and assess students' mastery by the work submitted.

Students who exceed grade level standards receive a 4. Students who are meeting the standard are given a 3. Students who are making progress are earn a 2. and students who are progressing below standards receive a 1. If a student has not submitted enough work for the teacher to determine his/her progress, the student will receive a 0. Students must complete their own assignments and assessments for the Teacher of Record to make an accurate determination of their progress. Mentors and Teachers of Record are available for support. Progress reports are provided at the end of each semester.

Middle School Grading

The majority of middle school courses are a full year and are broken in to two parts i.e., English 6X (semester 1) and English 6Y (semester 2). Students will be given an "in-progress" grade based on their course completion within the Apex program, at the end of each semester. The final grade is determined by the average of the two semester grades. Social Studies for 6th and 7th grades are full year courses, and are NOT divided in two semesters. Final grades will be based on the students overall percentage and given at the end of the year.

Students must complete courses with at least a 60% to earn a letter grade and will receive an in-progress grade based on the standard percentage grading scale. Percentages are determined by performance and completion and considered in-progress until the course is completed. Students who do not earn at least 60% will receive an "I" on their progress report, indicating that their progress is incomplete. An "I" will change to an F by the end of second semester if progress is not improved, or the student does not enroll in summer school. Students will receive a grade of an F if a course is not completed.

High School Grading

High school students must earn a minimum of 21 credits in required curriculum to graduate. CCSDA high school courses, offered through APEX, are broken into two parts and offered as separate courses worth .5 each. For example, students must take and pass both English 9X and English 9Y to earn a full credit. High schoolers must pass courses with a 60% or higher to earn a letter grade and credit. Percentages are determined by performance and completion and considered in-progress until the course is completed.
Students who do not earn at least a 60% will receive an "I" on their progress report, indicating that their progress is incomplete. An "I" will change to an F by the end of the course if progress is not improved by the end of second semester, or the end of summer school. All final grades will be listed on students' transcript.
