Parent's Challenge

A challenge of you would be to check on your child to ensure he/she is doing what is expected of him/her from all administrators, teachers, and staff anytime and anywhere on school campus. Check your child’s progress before the nine weeks end: homework, class work, tests, I Ready assignments, behavior in class or other locations in the school, come and be a part of your child’s school activities whenever possible.

Thank you for being a part of our successful home/school team.

Hello and Welcome to the World of Computer Skills and Applications and Exploring Career Decisions!

My name is Marilyn Elliott. I am a 6th grade CSA teacher and a 7th and 8th Careers teacher at Evergreen Elementary and Tabor City Middle School. I have been teaching and coaching over 25 years. I believe all students can learn in an environment that is conducive to learning. I also believe there are three qualities of a good teacher: knowledge of self and students, knowledge of subject, and knowledge of educational theory and research.

The careers curriculum was developed to prepare students to meet the guiding mission "that every public school student will graduate from high school, globally competitive for work and postsecondary education and prepared for life in the 21st century." This course was designed to provide an orientation to the world of work. Experiences were designed to introduce students to the technical nature of today's world and the role of productive workers. Activities enable students to increase self-awareness and make wise educational and occupational decisions as they plan for careers.

Computers and technology have become tools of choice and information that has become a valuable resource in all aspects of life. The use of technology allow students to think more critically, communicate more creatively, and solve problems more analytically. Computer technology will continue to have a significant impact on the world in which we live.

The Computer Skills and Application curriculum allow students to learn the touch method of keyboarding that teach students the correct method of touch keyboarding using an alphabetic approach. Touch typing, control and use of keys without looking at the keys, is the long term goal or expected outcome.
