CDE's Working Definitions

EQUITY Educational equity means that every student has access to the educational resources and rigor they need at the right moment in their education across race, gender, ethnicity, language, disability, sexual orientation, family background, and/ or family income.


INCLUSION What an organization does with diversity to ensure individuals have the opportunity to fully participate. Inclusion intentionally promotes a sense of belonging where people’s inherent worth and dignity are recognized and their abilities, qualities, and perspectives are leveraged for the collective good.


BELONGING Rightful Presence or Belonging is where every individual in a community is invited and welcomed into a professional ecosystem that is fluid, responsive, dynamic, and alive. (adapted from Amy McCart’s Rightful Presence Definition)
