Greetings from the Center for Legal & Court Technology (CLCT) at William & Mary Law School in Virginia!
We are pleased to report that this summer we will be offering a number of live, remote synchronous law‑related programs designed specifically for high school and university students.
Taught by law professors, these include:
Introduction to Law & the United States Legal System
Our flagship program addresses the fundamental questions of what law is, the role of judges in interpreting and making law, and how to understand judicial opinions. Students who successfully complete the program and write a basic memorandum of law receive Certificates of Successful Completion; others receive Certificates of Attendance. Taught by Chancellor Professor of Law and Director of CLCT Fred Lederer, this is a 12-and-a-half-hour program taught over four half days.
Session I - Monday, June 22nd to Thursday, June 26th
Session II - Monday, August 3rd to Thursday, August 6th
Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and the Law
This program includes the basic nature of Artificial Intelligence and how it is or may affect a number of legal areas such as copyright, privacy, due process, and concerns about how to safeguard trials from deepfakes. Taught by Adjunct Professor of Law and CLCT Assistant Director of Research Daniel Shin, this is a two-day (8 hours) program.
Tuesday, June 16th and Wednesday, June 17th
Introduction to Search and Seizure
This short program addresses whether, when, and how law enforcement can search persons and their property. Taught by Chancellor Professor of Law and CLCT Director Fred Lederer, this is a two-day (8 hours) program.
Wednesday, July 29th and Thursday, July 30th
A joint initiative of William & Mary Law School, the oldest law school in the Unites States, and the National Center for State Courts, CLCT is a non-profit research, education, and consulting organization at William & Mary Law School that works to improve the administration of justice through the use of appropriate technology. The Society of Women Engineers at the University of Virginia invites you to apply to our Engineering Futures Day program held on Sunday, March 29th, 2026. The program gives high school students a comprehensive look at the engineering field as well as UVA’s engineering curriculum through the lens of our women engineers. Students will spend the day guided by current UVA School of Engineering & Applied Science students through pioneering speakers, tours of NSF funded labs, hands-on design activities, and much more.
While the program is designed to benefit participants with all levels of engineering experience, we particularly target those students who are not yet familiar with the field but may be interested in applying to engineering schools or pursuing engineering careers. Furthermore, our fall session is a fantastic opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to explore if UVA Engineering is the right fit for them as they enter or continue their college application process.
The Fall 2025 session will take place in-person on March 29th at UVA’s Charlottesville campus with an application deadline of February 25th, 2026 at 11:59pm. The application can be found here and selection criteria can be found on the SWE @ UVA website: https://www.virginiaswe.org/efd. Thanks to our generous donors and volunteers, this event will be free of charge for all participants.
The application is already open. Acceptances will be sent out no later than Saturday, February 28th, 2026 at 11:59pm, with student confirmation and commitment forms due by Saturday March 7th at 11:59pm.
