Shawna Hawk is an Educator, Social and Cultural Anthropologist who is dedicated to supporting the healing and positive representation of Foundational Black Americans, especially women and children.
She is the founder of The Women of Color in Leadership Movement and director of Media Island International. She has played a crucial role in her continued advocacy for the vision of Rebecca Howard Park and change within the City of Olympia.
The most prominent event held at Rebecca Howard Park is the annual Juneteenth festival, a celebration that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and honors Black history and culture. Organized by Shawna Hawk and the Women of Color in Leadership Movement, the event features live performances, historical presentations, and a vendor marketplace highlighting Black-owned businesses.
