Colleton County and the City of Walterboro are excited to announce a $10M infrastructure improvement project heading to Colleton County and the City of Walterboro. This grant-funded project will install new sewer lines that will last for generations. This much needed improvement is essential for our community to grow and will allow for continued economic development. The improvement project spans from the Water Treatment Plant through the City of Walterboro, venturing through Colleton County to the Colleton County Economic Development Mega Site. Due to the size of the project, there are two Phases. Phase I will take place in the largest subdivision in Colleton County, Forest Hills. The map below depicts the work areas for the improvement projects. In 2021, the City of Walterboro purchased 11.30 acres of the old CSX rail bed where the new sewer lines will be installed.
The contractor, R.H. Moore Company, of Murrells Inlet, SC, will be installing 11,800 linear feet of 18-inch gravity sewer, 2000 feet of 21-inch gravity sewer, and 50 manholes. The improvement project should be completed by June 30, 2026, barring any manmade or natural disasters. Funding for this project was provided by Rural Infrastructure Authority, South Carolina Investment Program grant, South Carolina Department of Commerce, and Colleton County Economic Development Commission (Dominion Energy and SCPT grants). Phase I plans can be found by clicking on the button below.
A utility easement is a designated parcel(s) of land that gives utility companies the right to access private property for the good of the community. Some may think their property extends further than it actually does. This is why it is important to know exactly where your property line is. In the case of this project, if there are any fences or structures located within the rail bed easement, they will need to be removed.
The purple shaded area indicates the old CSX railbed that is owned by the City of Walterboro and is where the sewer lines will be installed.
