Meet the CU Cares Team:
Wanda is known to be a master of connecting folks and building relationships within the community. Working with everyone is one of the areas that excites me. I have a love and passion for helping others to achieve their goals.
I am a proud Springfield College graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services and a Master's in Organizational Leadership and Change. I draw on the philosophy of lifelong learning to lead my work through the practice of Mind, Body, and Spirit, which has led me to advocate for change in the recovery community for over 33 years. I have worked for Pine Street Inn and Amos House to serve many battling substance abuse challenges and together to reunite mothers and fathers with their children. I spent over seven years working in Mental Health at Roger Williams Hospital. I am an entrepreneur. I currently enjoy being a partner of a sober club and the owner of a clothing store.
Since 2015, I have been at College Unbound, working to make dreams come true for adult students who return to college after many years of stopping out. I serve as the case manager for the College and a teacher's assistant, and I started in the Fall of '21 as a Lab Faculty member. I am proud of parenting and co-parenting some lovely children I adore. Wanda supports and is supported by her entire family.
My passion is helping others, which kinda came naturally as both my parents had careers in the helping professions and the same passion. I earned my MSW and Doctorate of Education from the University of Washington. I am also a licensed chemical dependency professional. I have been working for the State of Washington in various roles for 15 years. Currently I work full time for the Department of Social and Health Services, Aging and Long Term Support Administration. I desperately missed working directly with people and feeling like I was making a difference. About one year ago, I found out about College Unbound and the Community Cares Student Support position and it was a great fit where I would be able to fulfill my passion once again. I am a single mom to my amazing five year old son as well as three dogs, a fish, a snail, and a bunny rabbit. I love sporting events/games, concerts, comedy shows, trying new restaurants, dancing (ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, modern), and just spending time with family/friends.

As someone who regularly thinks about how we care for ourselves and each other from moment-to-moment, it is definitely a privilege to serve CU students as a part-time Community and Wellness Coordinator located in Chicago. Connecting people with resources that will help them thrive in school and beyond is an absolute honor and I am beyond grateful to contribute to their journey.
My professional experience began as an undergrad at Loyola University Chicago, interning for a supportive housing organization. My Bachelors was in Psychology with a minor in Women & Gender Studies and my internship led me to seek a career in social work. Before returning to school, I spent time working with youth internationally as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco and then as an ESL teacher in South Korea and Spain. When I returned to the US in 2020, I worked in community mental health, Human Resources, and board development consulting in Seattle. My Masters in Social Work is from the University of Washington and my concentration was in Community-Centered Integrative Practice which led me to study social work from a social-justice lens. Thanks to this program and the therapy practice I interned for, INfinitely Well, I developed the tools to become a justice-centered social worker and therapist. Shortly after graduating, I got my associate clinical license and am proud to say I started my private practice which I currently run.
Aside from my professional life, I spend my time watering my relationships with family and friends, sitting with nature every chance I get, deepening my spiritual practice, reading at coffee shops, and finding ways to create art and/or appreciate it in its many forms.
Helping others is my passion. I am dedicated to advocating for students and families, ensuring they feel supported, valued, and seen. I am a proud graduate of College Unbound and currently pursuing my master’s degree in psychology at Grand Canyon University. As an Army veteran, former law enforcement officer, safety and security expert, and a proud girl dad of three daughters ages 14, 8, and 6, I understand firsthand the challenges people face while balancing education, personal growth, and family responsibilities.
These experiences have fueled my commitment to advocacy and my drive to create real change in communities and for those in need. In my role as a Community Care Coordinator with College Unbound, I am honored to continue this work—helping students reach their goals, believe in their potential, and know they are never alone on their journey.
