Each youth committed to the Department of Youth Services will develop an Education and Career e-portfolio during their Career Exploration Seminar course with the support of Empower Your Future (EYF) teachers, Education and Career Counselors, and other caring adults. The e-portfolio is a web-based education career plan and portfolio designed by students and is aligned with the Empower Your Future curriculum and the Massachusetts Career Information System (MassCIS) website. Developing the e-portfolio is a research-based, reflective, and long-term process that supports youth as they explore education and career options, identify resources, and determine the steps necessary to attain their immediate long-term academic, career, and personal goals. As a plan, the e-portfolio tasks youth with answering three questions --Who am I? Where am I going? and How do I get there? The e-portfolio encourages self-advocacy and can inform decision making and support incorporating youth voice at critical planning meetings such as IEP meetings, school re-entry meetings, and 90/60/30 monthly treatment meetings. As a portfolio, the e-portfolio allows youth to organize, store, and be able to present essential career-related documents and projects from the EYF curriculum, content classes, and extracurricular activities.
