Offset Projects

Located in Waterloo, NY, this project captures landfill gas which contains greenhouse gasses such as methane and converts it into energy used for electricity generation.  The project has the capacity to generate around 18 megawatts of electricity which is enough to power around 20,000 homes and businesses.  The Seneca Meadows location is also a wetlands reserve which is home to 215 bird species that are protected and part of the LEED-certified education center on site.

Sustainable Development Goals Met:

Crow Lake (South Dakota, US)

Powered by 108 wind turbines, the Crow Lake Wind project has generated an immense amount of clean energy. This wind farm is situated on 36,000 acres near Chamberlain, South Dakota, and is able to produce 162 megawatts (MWs) which is enough to provide electricity for approximately 105,000 houses a year. The energy produced from this wind farm is a cost-efficient alternative to obtaining energy from grid-connected resources. Furthermore, this project was developed on a voluntary basis and not used to help any state renewable portfolio requirements.

Sustainable Development Goals Met:

The Danjiang River Solar Cookers is a program that has distributed eco-friendly stove alternatives to 100,000 low-income households in the Henan Province of China. These cooking instruments not only help to reduce emissions but also help to eliminate a large chunk of annual costs that are associated with purchasing fuel for older stoves. The use of these stoves allows for a cleaner method of cooking due to a reduction in air pollution in the households which has had numerous health impacts on families.

Sustainable Development Goals Met:

This project prevents deforestation in the native forests in the Amazon. This project stimulates forest management job creation and supports critical habitats for the many species living on these lands.
