This module should take around 15 mins to complete.
In this OER we have explored as possible future vision for adult learning in the post-digital world where hybrid learning will be blended with teacher avatars to increase choice and engagement. Ashraf, et al., (2021) comment that ‘UNESCO and ILO key priority for future education systems is that of a resilient education and this is achieved through blended and hybrid learning.’ (Ashraf, et al., 2021, p. 1526). They allude to how this possible future vision meets some of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) such as ‘... #4 - equity and high-quality education for all - which works as a backbone for some other SDG’s, such as … and reduced inequality #10. (Ashraf, et al., 2021, p. 1538)
To realise this futuristic perspective, it is imperative to adopt technology and delve into the possibilities of transporting teachers into the online learning environments through avatar representations. Although the technology already exists, it is not yet widespread, necessitating careful steps for the realisation of this vision. There is a need to acknowledge potential data-related concerns associated with projecting teacher avatars globally. Nevertheless, given the prospect of increased engagement and broader participation, this vision for the future is both innovative and exhilarating.
