Mizzou Global Scholars

2020

Grade 8

Mizzou Global Leaders is an inquiry-based educational program driven by 21st- century skills. We use an integrated approach to curriculum to help students develop global awareness, critical thinking, and leadership skills. We then give them numerous and relevant opportunities to apply these skills across cultures and mediums. Our projects encourage students to seek ways to make a positive difference in their communities. To this end, they learn about important local and global issues. They engage in service projects, organize drives, plan campaigns, study famous leaders, and invite community experts into their classrooms.

In Grade 8, students explore human rights, including access to education, food and nutrition, children's rights, and safety and security. As students become more globally aware and confident in their leadership skills, they evaluate how they can make a positive difference in affirming human rights in their local and global communities. Leadership, service, analysis, and critical thinking are essential skills that students will hone throughout this course. Students will complete this course prepared for high- school level reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Team building activities are integral part of our routine, when we could still be in our classroom we took advantage of that.

Catch the Candy" taught us a lot about team work
and candies provided the perfect incentive
We learned that you need to lean on others sometimes
and that teamwork makes all the difference when we want to accomplish our goals.

We didn't let online classes and distance get in the way of our teambuilding or celebrations.

We begun the year learning about children's rights and how they can be protected, we reflected on the many challenges the world faces and the tools we have to make a difference.
