Mrs. Martinelli's Virtual Meet the Teacher
Students are working hard on our first math unit all about volume! We have practiced building solids with different number of cubes and determining their volume and are moving in to detemining volume of rectangular prisms, both with and without cubes!
Our science unit is all about the sun, the moon, the Earth, and their movements! Check out photos from our shadow clock project below, and make sure to help your student as they record the moon phases in their Lunar Journal every other night! We are loving how hands on this unit is.
Fifth grade students are beginning our unit on Early Settlements in North America. We have started our read aloud book about the Jamestown Colony and are looking forward to learning more!
Students have been working hard on our first math unit which focuses on Finding Area and Surface Area of various polygons and polyhedron! They have practiced decomposing and rearranging parts of polygons in order to find the area of irregular shapes. Our next step will be to learn some formulas that we can reliably use to calculate the area of regular polygons, such as parallelograms and triangles!
Our first science unit on Weather and Climate focuses not only on identifying what weather and climate are, but on recognizing the impact that extreme weather and varying climates have on people throughout the world.
We have begun our year in social studies by learning about the Civil War!
