The Colby School Board will provide valuable insights into the critical building infrastructure needs and improvement opportunities within our school buildings. Information shared and gathered at these community meetings will assist the District in its current Strategic Planning work.
We will continue to share this information on this website, district emails, and social media.

Through a series of meetings in May and June, help the District prioritize potential long-term and fiscally responsible solutions. Input helped guide the School Board as it relates to developing a long-term District facility master plan. This was a short commitment with a big impact!

The purpose of education and process of the facility task force discussed,
Your school board requested input from the community to feel confident in the direction forward and will not proceed without it.
The community must be involved in the process when being asked to fund the outcome.
A shared vision is realized when school boards, district officials, and communities work together.
Always keeping in mind these three things…
Make sense for kids?
Make sense fiscally?
Have community support?

The second meeting was focused on two primary agenda items. First, Debby Brunett, the district's financial advisor from Baird, presented financial considerations that would inform the task force's future decisions. Following this, the group engaged in a discussion about "Future Ready Schools," exploring various examples and case studies that illustrated what these schools might look like. This conversation helped set the stage for envisioning the district's future facilities.
During the third meeting, the task force participated in a tour of the Elementary and Middle School buildings. The tour was led by Jim Hagen, Middle School Principal, and Brenda Medenwaldt, Elementary Principal, who guided the group through key areas, highlighting infrastructural needs and potential facility improvements aimed at enhancing the learning environment. After the tour, the task force gathered to discuss what they had learned, beginning the process of identifying potential projects and setting priorities based on their observations.
The fourth meeting involved a similar tour, this time of the High School building. Led by Steve Wozniak, High School Principal, and Scott Rachu, Facilities Director, the tour focused on identifying the infrastructural needs and potential improvements specific to the high school. Following the tour, the task force reconvened to refine their list of potential projects and priorities, taking into account the insights gained from the tour.
In the final meeting, the task force synthesized all the information and experiences from the previous meetings to develop a set of facility priorities and potential projects. The group worked collaboratively to reach a consensus, laying the groundwork for a formal recommendation to be presented to the School Board. This meeting marked the culmination of the task force's efforts, bringing them closer to a shared vision for the district's future facilities.
