PI: Oliver W. Layton

I am an assistant professor of Computer Science at Colby College. I'm thrilled to teach and lead the OWLab in an interdisciplinary liberal arts environment. I graduated from Skidmore College with degrees in Mathematics and Computational Neuroscience, a major that I designed to study the brain from an interdisciplinary, quantitative approach with Flip Phillips, Tom O’Connell, and Michael Eckmann. I received my Ph.D. in Cognitive and Neural Systems from Boston University in 2013. I developed neural models of self-motion perception and figure-ground segregation with Ennio Mingolla Arash Yazdanbakhsh, and Andrew Browning. I did my postdoc with Brett Fajen in the Cognitive Science Department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Lab members

Mufaddal Ali

I am a junior at Colby College, pursuing a double major in Neuro-Psychology and Computer Science. Working at OWLab on projects regarding perception and self movement was a perfect opportunity to combine both my fields of study, and hence a great learning experience! I look forward to exploring new possibilities where I can apply the skills learned at the OWLab.

Eli Decker

Eli is a Computer Science and Studio Art double major at Colby from Concord, Massachusetts. When he’s not coding or painting, he’s usually running. Eli is a member of Colby’s Cross Country and Track and Field teams and a representative for SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee).

Sinan Yumurtaci

I am a freshman studying Computer Science at Colby College. I’ve been programming for 4 years and I enjoy working with modular blocks of code. I am eager to learn about the practical applications of AI and excited to be participating in OWLab.
