Colby has updated its existing Research Misconduct Policy in response to changes made to the federal research misconduct regulations under 42 CFR Part 93. The updated federal research misconduct regulations under 42 CFR Part 93 now incorporate procedural changes relevant to contemporary research environments, including guidance applicable to emerging research practices and the use of artificial intelligence tools. Additionally, particular attention is given to issues of data provenance, authorship, recordkeeping, and the integrity and reliability of research outputs.
Members of the Colby community engaged in research activities supported by Public Health Service (PHS) agencies or other federal grants, as well as anyone conducting research at Colby, should familiarize themselves with the updated policy.
The revised policy is available here.
The work of reviewing the new regulatory guidelines was undertaken collaboratively by the Office of General Counsel, the Grants Office, and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) in coordination with the Provost’s Office.
If you have questions about the revisions or their application, please reach out to Elizabeth Teague in the Office of the General Counsel.
