Welcome to the Sixth Grade and Mr. Knight's Math Class
Eureeka Sixth Grade Math
In sixth grade, students expand their understanding of numbers as they begin the transition from arithmetic to algebraic thinking. They work with ratios, rates, and proportions to describe relationships between quantities and solve real-world problems. Students also deepen their understanding of fractions, decimals, and negative numbers, learning how to operate with rational numbers and interpret them in meaningful contexts.
Students learn to write and evaluate algebraic expressions and begin solving equations that represent real situations. They also explore geometry concepts such as area, surface area, and volume, and begin analyzing data using measures such as mean and mean absolute deviation. Throughout the year, students explain their reasoning, use multiple representations, and develop confidence in applying mathematics to everyday situations.
