Behavior Policy:
I am very excited to have your child in my class this year. I am a teacher who takes respect and responsibility very seriously. I use a point system to keep track of and reinforce desired behaviors. Students will begin the day with four “points.” They may earn 1-2 extra points throughout the day by demonstrating these and other Core Virtues. As students earn and collect points, they can spend them on prizes. Students will keep track of their points using a calendar in their take-home folder.
I will take away students’ points if they struggle to be respectful, responsible, and safe, and I will reward students with extra points for going above and beyond. Each day they can earn up to 6 points.
6 points - Bonus for a great day!
5 points - Bonus!
4 points - Following Expectations
3 points - Warning
2 points - Walk laps for ½ of recess
1 point - Written reflection and contact home (may be additional recess laps)
0 points - Office Referral (may be additional recess laps)
In the case of students completing a written reflection, it is a chance for them to identify the challenging behavior and make a plan to improve going forward. I will send these home the day they are completed to kindly be signed and returned. I will provide a child with a reflection and contact parents immediately in the case of more disruptive or dangerous behaviors, including repeated inappropriate language, fighting, or using cell phones during school hours. Thank you in advance for reading this entire letter as well as partnering with me to help our students be their best, most mature selves.
