My name is Ms. Bustin. I grew up in Medford and North Reading, MA, I studied physics and education at UMass Lowell, and now I live in Spring Lake, NC. When I'm not teaching or learning about science, I love dancing, reading, and singing! My favorite color is purple and the parts of physics I'm most interested in are quantum computing, nanotechnology, and astronomy.
Being a teacher is one of the most awesome jobs in the entire world. It is also one of the hardest, most demanding, and most rewarding jobs. If you are a teacher, be proud of your awesome self, be present in the classroom, and be up to the immense challenge before you.
Understand that students are struggling. No matter what students' personalities are like, they are human and strive to be good people. More than that, every person has a problem or 47. Something(s) they’re working on.
Teachers matter. You do not see the direct results of your best work. You really do seem to students like a celebrity or a god. Respect that power and use it to prepare children and young adults to face the world, and do not exploit that power in order to rave about your passions to a captive audience or take out your anger.
Teachers have power! As a teacher, you have the power and responsibility to make every student feel included and heard. An impactful teaching practice is actively anti-racist and ethical, empowering students to attain high expectations and reach their full potential.
