Lowell is a long way away from your town, so you will have to take a stagecoach. You might travel for a full day, or even two or three, to get there. Imagine riding in a stagecoach (pictured below) “being well jolted over the rocks and hills of New Hampshire."
In the book Lyddie, the author tells us about Lyddie's journey to Lowell on a stagecoach. “[The] six of them were jammed into the carriage [stagecoach]. There was hardly room for any of them to move, yet the rolling and pitching of the coach seemed worse rather than better for the load. . . . Lyddie longed for a healthy smell of a farmyard. . . ."
