In second grade, our reading goals focus on developing fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Students should be able to read grade-level texts with expression, identify central ideas and details, inferences, and spell grade appropriate words. Writing goals include composing complete sentences, organizing thoughts in logical order, and using punctuation correctly. Students are encouraged to write narratives and informational pieces, expanding their vocabulary and incorporating descriptive language. Overall, the emphasis is on building confidence and skills for effective communication.

About Your Teacher
Ms. Jessica Black is a dedicated 2nd-grade teacher at James Street Elementary. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Education from Western Governors University and has been teaching for seven years. Her passion lies in fostering a love of reading and writing in her students, and teaching new innovative ideas to help her students grow. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Black enjoys, painting, hanging out with her two teenage sons, attending concerts or festivals, and exploring the great outdoors with her dog, Patti Cake.
