The educational objectives for dyslexia class provide focused support for the unique challenges of the learning disability. Key goals include enhancing phonological awareness and decoding skills through a multisensory, structured literacy approach. Students will progress from single letter-sound correspondence to complex phonics patterns, improving word recognition and reading fluency. In addition to decoding, the class emphasizes written expression and orthographic skills. Students will receive explicit instruction in spelling patterns, morphology (prefixes and suffixes), and sentence structure. With the tools given in class the student will build a foundation that will aid as their fluency and accuracy in reading grow.
My name is Brittany Currie, and I am currently in my third year dedicated to teaching students with dyslexia, though I bring a total of 14 years of teaching experience across various subjects and grade levels. My greatest passion lies in empowering students to develop their reading and spelling skills with accuracy and fluency, fostering a love for literacy that will serve them throughout their lives.
Family is of utmost importance to me, and my faith in Jesus serves as the foundation of our lives. I have been happily married to my husband, Kyle, for 26 wonderful years. Together, we are proud parents to our son, Clayton, who is 23, and our daughter, Kylie, who is 20. They are truly my pride and joy.
As we embark on this academic year, I am excited about the journey of teaching and learning ahead. I firmly believe that effective educators are lifelong learners themselves, and I look forward to growing alongside my students in this enriching experience.
