The Coast Guard District Central–Eastern Visayan known as the Second Coast Guard District and officially activated on 17 October 1967 as a major unit of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) created under the Republic Act No. 5173 other-wise known as the “Coast Guard Law of 2009”.
The Headquarters Second Coast Guard District (H2CGD) is strategically located at Arellano Boulevard, Cebu City which is dubbed as the hub of various economic activities in the Visayan Region composing of regions VI, VII, and VIII respectively.
Following the regionalization of the government departments and enhancing command and control, all Coast Guard Districts were renamed and their areas of responsibility were realigned.
On October 2000, the second Coast Guard district was renamed to Coast Guard District Central–Eastern Visayas (CGDCEV) comprising all the provinces of Region VII and Region VIII monitored by seven Coast Guard stations which are as follows: Coast Guard Station Cebu, Coast Guard Station Dumaguete, Coast Guard Station Tagbiliran, Coast Guard Station Tacloban, Coast Guard Station Ormoc, Coast Guard Station Catbalogan, Coast Guard Station Maasin.
The advent of the Rationalization Plan 2007 paved the way for the reorganization of the PCG. On 23 July 2007, CGDCEV was deactivated and renamed as Coast Guard Visayas Command (CGVISCOM). However, the rationalization was short lived. CGVISCOM was again deactivated and reverted back to CGDCEV on 19 November 2007 covering its original areas of responsibility.
On 02 January 2012, to effectively discharge one of the PCG mandates, Coast Guard District Central Visayas was divided into two districts namely: Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas or Region VIII and Coast Guard District Central Visayas (CGDCV) or Region VII pursuant to RA 9993.
Currently, CGDCV covers the provinces of Cebu and Bohol and has six Coast Guard Stations detailed as follows: Coast Guard Station Central Cebu , CGS Northern Cebu, CGS Southern Cebu, CGS Western Bohol, CGS Eastern Bohol, and CGS Camotes.
