Jonathan's life is made up of creativity, fun events and passion for his art. Jonathan Mauberry was born on May 19, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This makes him 68 years of age. In this time he has accomplished many fantastic feats and learned many lessons.
Jonathan’s early life was made up with him telling stories to all of his friends and peers. theoriginalvangoghsearanthology.com marks it very clearly his natural charm is ample ”I’m pretty sure I was telling stories within a half an hour of being born. I’ve always wanted to write. It’s what defines me. Although I worked several oddball jobs on the way to becoming a full-time writer. I was a bodyguard in the entertainment industry, a bouncer at a sleazy strip club, a martial arts instructor, and a graphic artist and actor in regional theater.” Jonathan even at a young age had a wild imagination and facilitation with comics and super heroes. Many genres of stories fascinated him but the one that intrigued Marbury the most was horror. Horror became the main love for Maubbery for the early part of his career. He wrote many books that would force the readers to feel feelings of fear and terror.
These scary books often would be written in an action-like style. There is a catalyst for his actions and that would be his background in martial arts. Muabbery grew up in a very harsh part of Philly and he would often see others fall subject to persecution from Philly criminals. The crime rates in Philly brought forth the drive to join martial arts ,even at the age of 8, he was learning advanced martial arts. His martial arts career didn't just end there. According to the “theoriginalvangoghsearanthology.com “He eventually earned an 8th-degree black belt, taught women's self-defense and martial arts history at Temple University, and used his combat expertise to work as a bodyguard, a club bouncer, and an expert witness for the Philadelphia District Attorney's office on murder cases involving martial arts”. His drive for action could easily be seen in later parts of his career.
When he began his comic book journey he was only 8 years old. Much like his love for martial arts he fell in love with comics. Even at a young age he was writing thrilling stories and making strips that were very ahead of his age. He began to think about becoming a professional in the comic book region of his life later on. At the amazing age of 50 he published with Marvel Studios. This was a huge accomplishment in his life because he grew up learning about many of these superheroes and even later on in his middle age he learned about the in depth stories.
Not only was this man a published artist with Marvel he is also very award winning in his writing. According to theoriginalvangoghsearanthology.com awards came as a surprise to Maberry “I never really thought it was in the cards for me. I still get a jolt out of it. It’s moderately surreal. Ditto for having won a Scribe Award and four Bram Stoker Awards. That sort of thing happens to other people. So…I’m still in the ‘wow’ phase.”. Maubbery’s writing career started differently than many fiction writers. He was focused on non-fiction. Maubbery was very keen on a bunch of books on martial arts, sports and related themes. Maubbery even felt like Nonfiction was my bridge. After he did a bunch of books on real life things, he decided to do one in honor of his grandmother. She was an amateur folklorist and amateur anthropologist. She loved studying the beliefs of cultures all over the world, and she had a bias toward legends of the occult and supernatural. To honor that, he wrote a nonfiction book about the folklore of vampires –The Vampire Slayer’s Field Guide to the Undead, published under the one-time-only pen name of Shane MacDougall. After this he fell in love with writing non-fiction.
