Arthur Conan Doyle, born in Scotland Edinburgh on may 22 1859. He was born into an Irish Catholic family. Conan Doyle's early life was spent mostly following his religion in which he had attended a Jesuit school for several years. After attending what can be simplified as highschool, Conan Doyle would go on to attend a college with influence from his mother lodger. He attended Edinburgh's Medical school in which he received his Bachelor of Medicine and surgery qualifications in 1881. Conan Doyle would go on to be inspired by the detail in which his professor would go into a diagnosis. Which would become a model for his famous detective. Conan Doyle began his first journal in the midst of his college academics, The Mystery of Sasassa Valley. His first couple publications, not including his academic publication, were mainly seen inside magazines. He would go on to publish his first book in 1887. Conan Doyle's medical knowledge affected how characters were written most notably Sherlock Holmes as well as other notable characters. During this time his logic began to change his view point on his Catholicism. He instead followed a life of following spiritualism instead. Which also showed a great deal inside of the personality and books of Sherlock Holmes. As a whole Sherlock Holmes was a character which portrayed the ways Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had felt or viewed the world. Even characters that surround Sherlock Holmes give significant insight to the life of Sir Arthur from his medical knowledge, militaristic or patriotic views, or religion. It all was shown in his stories with a specific method which garnered him a great way to express these objects
Conan Doyle not much earlier than he published his first book in 1887 he had married a woman named Lousia Hawkins in 1885. He would go on to have 2 kids with her. A great achievement that Conan Doyle had accomplished was becoming a Sir, through being knighted in 1902 for his medical work. Just 4 years later his family would run into a hardship where his wife would pass in 1906. Despite that just one year later he would go on to marry a woman named Jean Leckie and have 3 kids with her. He currently has no living descendants due to none of his children having children. Later in life he would begin to give most of his profits to the campaigning of Spiritualism which he followed effortlessly. Never changing it for the opinion of another. Even a friend, Him and Harry Houdini, once friends began to rip apart due to Houdini revealing spiritual mediums as frauds, even with some of the spiritualists disagreeing with some view points of Conan Doyle. Even with all the seemingly harmful words being brought against Sir Arthur Conan Doyle he had kept following his religion up until his death and seemingly afterwards too.
During Conan Doyle's Life he has witnessed 2 wars, both of which he had known his medical assistance could help. The first war, the Boer war, he had tried to enlist however he was deemed overweight and unfit. He then went on to go to Africa with his Medical capabilities to help. In the second war, The first World War, he was deemed too old. Both of which had effects on his later stories fueling a patriotic view point. Noticeably he had Dr Watson's background show that he was a veteran. As well as The White Company and Sir Nigel which show some militaristic features such as accurate detail of combat and military life. During the same time as the Boer war he had made the difficult decision to end the Sherlock Holmes stories. Along with the ending he had voiced that he resented the character as it simply overshadowed all of his other creations. To eliminate Sherlock Holmes he had decided to kill him off, however it was met with plenty of backlash which also led to the revival of Sherlock Holmes. Conan Doyle truly believed that his other creations were the true master pieces and had more significance than anything related to Sherlock Holmes. Near the end of his life he would release a case book of Sherlock Holmes which would be the last published book by him until he died in 1930 July 7th. With the death of Conan Doyle, it was celebrated rather than mourned. His spiritualism was the number one thing he could die with and begin anew. At his funeral was not just family but the community he has advocated for, The Spiritualists. A medium at his funeral would go on to state that they had contacted Conan Doyle in his afterlife. Conan Doyle's Death had a major impact on the subscription to Strand Magazine which Sherlock Holmes was connected to. Even in his afterlife his single most fought for piece of literature was still Holmes.
