Author Style
Christopher Paolini’s writing style has changed within “The Inheritance Cycle” as he has grown up over time, starting the series at the age of fifteen. This can be seen with some of the characters and the story overall. For example, there are many parallels between the characters of Star Wars and Eragon. This includes the farm-boy, who turns out to be related to the big bad in some way, learning that they have some magical powers, and going onto some journey, becoming a rebel against the big bad. This idea extends throughout all the characters too. Not only Eragon being a farmboy, but Brom, the mentor, is a great example of this type of character in this type of storyline. This idea also extends to “Eragon’s” storyline. It moves similarly to the storyline of Star Wars as well. I’ve already somewhat explained that, but it essentially has many similar underlying plot points that the story follows. Finally, Paolini uses setting in a way that really shows off the different races, their values, and everything else that builds up a medieval story like “Eragon”. This is best seen when Eragon is taken through the Dwarf’s halls and shown things of their history and religion that really adds a unique perspective and depth to all of the races.
Emulation of Style
As I walked through the verdant fields, the sun shone down upon me, casting a warm and inviting glow upon the world. The gentle breeze that blew through the fields carried with it the sweet scent of wildflowers and the rustling of leaves in the trees. The world seemed to come alive around me, the sounds and smells of nature filling my senses and bringing me peace.
As I walked, I couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of the world around me. The fields stretched out as far as the eye could see, a vast expanse of green and gold that seemed to go on forever. The trees that dotted the landscape provided welcome shade from the sun, while the wildflowers that grew along the path added splashes of color to the world.
I came across a babbling brook that wound its way through the fields. The water was crystal clear, and the sunlight that filtered through the trees danced and shimmered on the surface. I stopped for a moment to dip my toes in the cool water, reveling in the sensation of the gentle current washing over me.
Continuing on my journey, I came across a small grove of trees that seemed to have been untouched by human hands. The leaves rustled softly in the breeze, and the birds that nested in the branches sang a sweet melody that filled the air. I closed my eyes and breathed in deeply, the scent of the trees and the earth filling my lungs and calming my spirit.
As I walked, I felt a sense of peace and contentment wash over me. The world around me was so beautiful, so full of life and wonder, that I couldn't help but feel grateful to be alive and to experience it all. I walked on, my heart filled with joy and my soul at peace, knowing that I was exactly where I was meant to be.
Explanation of My Emulation
One of the main parts of Paolini's style I tried to use was his word choice. He really uses distinct and standout words that really help him develop the setting. For me personally, and definitely many others, this type of word choice really helps imagine and understand the settings as it is. This includes all the types of settings he has to come up with for his story, like vast desert wastelands and lush forests. Speaking of setting, he really uses setting in a way that really goes along with tone. In this piece, I tried using the setting and tone in a way that created a calm and relaxing atmosphere throughout the passage. This piece specifically focusing on the type of setting I would find to be incredibly relaxing. There’s also the matter of structure. Paolini generally only uses a chronological order of events in his stories, attempting to make the reader feel the flow of the story as it goes on. I used this concept in a similar way, trying to help my readers feel as if they were the one’s walking through this scene.
