Analysis of Plot
In the novels “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”, J.K. Rowling uses chronological order of events in order to build tensions to the climax of the story, ultimately illustrating the challenges the characters went through in order to protect the greater good.
To begin, Rowling begins by presenting the indication of a secret at Hogwarts. To illustrate, Harry and Hagrid went to Gringotts for money for supplies, while Hagrid picked up a top secret item from a vault. This enhances the tension brewing between Harry and the secrets at Hogwarts because he is concealed from what is going on. Consequently, since the narrator chooses to order the events chronologically, the plot is more understandable and every minor detail turns into a big part of the story. Furthermore, the narrator builds the tension by adding little inconveniences Harry discovers due to the fact that it builds the plot before reaching the main event of the story. Also, it builds the relationship between the events of the story making the plot flow better. The author chooses to build the tensions within the narrative at the beginning of the story and consistently continues throughout the rest while introducing Harry to a new environment.
In addition, Rowling finishes by reaching the climax of the story and tying up all of the events that happened. To illustrate, Voldemort had taken possession of Professor Qurrielll, and he was the one who let the troll in to create a diversion. Harry did not find out until he was met with Voldemort at the end of the book. This demonstrates the author’s use of chronological structure because the author highlighted every key detail that led up to the climax. Consequently, since the narrator highlighted these key details, the plot lines better and has a better progression of the events. Furthermore, the chronological order enhances the plot due to the fact that the small events equal the big climax at the end of the story. Also, the small events keep the readers engaged in the story and wanting to read more. Therefore, the narrator enhances the story’s structure by including the small events; thus, the plot flows better and continues along with the story.
Ultimately, the chronological order Rowling chooses to create the story enhances the tensions within the book and creates a plot that is unexpected and exciting.
