You can always call campus police at 757-594-7777 if you are feeling threatened, including physical, emotional, or verbal intimidation. They will ask questions to understand the nature of the threat, and then will inform you of options available to protect you. Some threats may not feel like a matter you want to go to police with, and that is okay-- CNU has other resources to assist and protect you depending on the nature of the threat you have experienced. If you have been subjected to threatening behavior that is sexual in nature, you can directly contact our Director of Title IX at titleixeo@cnu.edu or at 757-594-8819. Currently, this contact person is Dr. Amy Sirocky-Meck. She will be able to help with any concerns you may have, even if those concerns include feeling safe within your residence hall, academic buildings, or anywhere on campus. Whether the threat took place on campus, off campus, or during study abroad, the Title IX office can help you.
If you believe you are being threatened or harassed due to your race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, military/veteran status, political affiliation, or any other status protected by law, you can directly contact our Director of Title IX at titleixeo@cnu.edu or at 757-594-8819. Currently, this contact person is Dr. Amy Sirocky-Meck. She will ask questions to understand what has happened. She will then coordinate to get you connected to any support services you may need, and will initiate the investigation process.
The Associate Dean of Students, Brian Larson, can help determine your support and safety needs, coordinate support across relevant offices, and provide official communication to all relevant parties across the university (with student permission).
