Substance use concerns can take different forms: maybe you are worried about how much you are using, or how often, or you may be concerned about the reasons for your use (for example, to cope rather than for social reasons), feeling like your substance use or the time it takes to recover from substance use is interfering with obligations (such as classes, work, or relationships) or with your sleep or physical health. If you have concerns for any reason, there is help available both on campus and in our local community.
CNU's Office of Counseling Services is a free and confidential resource for students located in the Freeman Center. They can help you develop a plan for how to address your substance concerns, as well as provide support and help you develop coping strategies to deal with stressors instead of using substances. They can also refer you to more specialized treatment off-campus if you'd like. They are available for appointments during business hours M-F, and available 24/7 in the case of an emergency. It's easy to set up an appointment to meet with a counselor-- just call 757-594-7047 or even walk in and they will ask everything they need to know to get you connected to help.
