If you need immediate help regarding a sexual assault, contact campus police at 757-594-7777
CNU takes allegations of sexual assault and sexual harassment seriously. CNU's comprehensive resource for sexual assault survivors and their loved ones is located here.
If you or a CNU student you know has been sexually assaulted or sexually harassed and you are looking for guidance as to the resources available to help, you can directly contact the Title IX coordinator or a deputy Title IX coordinator. Their contact information is located here. They will be able to help with any concerns you may have, even if those concerns include feeling safe within your residence hall, academic buildings, or anywhere on campus. Whether an assault or harassment happens on campus, off campus, or during study abroad, the Title IX office can help you.
The Office of Counseling Services is a free and confidential resource for students located in the Freeman Center. They are available 24/7 in the case of an emergency. They can provide immediate support, as well as help you to develop a self-care plan, and connect you with other resources that can assist you. In addition to emergency availability, they are available for appointments during business hours M-F. Whether you need help right now or want to schedule an appointment, just call 757-594-7047 or you can even walk in during business hours. You can learn more about the Office of Counseling Services here.
While the Office of Counseling Services will be available to you immediately, you may also decide to attend counseling over a longer period to receive ongoing support. It is hard to be vulnerable with someone, and it helps tremendously to find the counselor with whom you feel most comfortable being open about what you're going through, whether that person is on staff at CNU's Office of Counseling Services or elsewhere. Wherever you decide to seek services, a trusting relationship with your counselor will allow you to get the most out of therapy. You can learn more about off-campus counseling resources here.
