Pre- or Co-requisite for SOCL 314L is SOCL 314.
Earn credit efficiently: This program replaces the semester-long SOCL314L lab course by condensing a full credit hour into a single Spring Break, freeing up your schedule during the rest of the semester. Students who do not need SOCL 314L, can take SOCL 395 for 1 credit as an elective.
Immerse yourself in nature: Just a 21-minute tram ride from our downtown housing, Bymarka Park offers 31 square miles of forested, mountainous terrain and a 124-mile trail network—ideal for hiking, cross country skiing, or snowshoeing. Or kayak the mouth of the Nidelva River at Trondheim Fjord.

Engage with local education: Visit a public school in Trondheim and observe and participate in physical education classes for a firsthand look at Norwegian schooling in action
Education, Culture, and Society: A Study of Friluftsliv in Norway is a 1 credit sociology lab taken over spring break. This program allows students to experience the Norwegian unique cultural ethos concerning the natural world and its relationship firsthand. This course will be based in the city of Trondheim, with classroom space and the expertise of a local kinesiologist provided by The Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Students will directly engage in the activities associated with Norwegian national physical education standards in natural contexts in and around the city of Trondheim.

Students who have a current passport will need to upload an image of their passport by December 1, 2025 to their enrollment forms.
Student without a Valid Passport
Apply for or renew your passport immediately. After November 1, students must pay to expedite the application process. Do not delay beginning this process.

The routine processing time is currently up to 6 weeks and expedited services is up to 3 weeks. These processing times are subject to change and can lengthen significantly. We highly recommend applying for or renewing your passport as soon as possible. Most countries require at least 6 months remaining time on your passport expiration from your intended date of departure. Example: If your passport expires August 1, 2026, you would need to renew your passport to travel in spring 2026.
