What is density?

Density is a physical measurement best defined by the mass of a single unit of volume. Density tells us how much a square meter of a certain substance weighs. In the International System of Quantities density is measured in kg/m³. In everyday life, g/cm³ is also used fairly regularly.

Water is one of only a few substances that expand upon solidification, therefore decreasing in density.
