Decodable Texts

Decodable text is a type of text used in beginning reading instruction. Decodable texts are carefully sequenced to progressively incorporate words that are consistent with the letter–sound relationships that have been taught to the new reader. This list of links, compiled by The Reading League, includes decodable text sources for students in grades K-2, 3-8, teens, and all ages.  List of decodable texts for young readers

BOB books are an example of decodable texts.  Once children know their letters and letter sounds, they are ready to sound out their first words.

These short stories introduce your child to the alphabet, sounds, word families., and much more with simple phrases like "Sam sat" or "The cat ran zig zag" that make use of repetition. In fact, these books are often the very first ones children can finish on their own!
