HOMEWORK

Philosophy: Homework at Piñon Valley Elementary School is an essential part of our school’s instructional program. Assignments will vary in accordance to the needs of the class and individual students and will relate to our core curriculum and classroom instruction. Homework assignments are intended to reinforce and extend learning initiated in the classroom and serve as a tool for teachers to assess student understanding of classroom instruction. Completion of routine homework can assist students in developing good work habits, while fostering initiative and responsibility. Daily homework activities and long-term assignments will be instructionally relevant and purposeful while enhancing the learning experiences of all students. The guidelines below indicate the role of the student and their parents, for the successful completion of homework.

Missing Assignments: Complete any work missed due to absence from class.  For every one day of an excused absence, students have two days to complete missed assignments.  As 6th graders, you will be responsible for collecting any missing assignments from the Google Classroom or the file bins in our classroom.

Time: The average amount of time students should spend on homework is about 60 minutes, depending on the child's work habits. Please know that if your student is experiencing difficulty, parents/guardians have the option of signing off after one hour of studious work.  We do not want students to struggle unnecessarily. Also, please let us know if the homework is consistently too hard or too much.

6th grade students may be required to spend time on the weekends for any long-term assignments, tests and/or required reading.
