Google Forms Locked Mode is Here!

9/12/2019 - For those of you who have been worried about students’ ability to look up answers while taking online quizzes, Google released Locked Mode for quizzes this past spring. Now, if they're gonna cheat, they're going to have to do it one of the old-fashioned ways.

Locked Mode is an option you can set when you create a quiz using Forms that forces students into having ONLY the active quiz window open during the duration of their quiz. Students in Locked Mode cannot Alt-Tab to another app or webpage, nor can they access their desktops or any other files when Locked Mode is active.

Here's the caveat: in order to take a quiz in Locked Mode, students must be logged into a "managed Chrome device", i.e. a Chromebook or Chromestation from one of our carts or labs. Students who attempt to take a Locked Mode quiz while at home or on a Mac or their phones will not be able to access the quiz.

If you want to see what Locked Mode looks like, grab yourself a Chrome device, log in, and take this Vocabulary quiz!
