10 Reasons Why IB Students are College and Career Ready
Students study coursework that helps them develop critical thinking, independent perspectives, and international mindedness that make them better communicators.
IB Students study world language that raises intercultural competence and improves their ability to appreciate and communicate with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
IB Classes not only focus on developing scholars who are knowledgeable, inquirers, and critical thinkers, but IB aims to help students become principled, caring, self-managed, effective communicators who learn to balance academic and extracurricular responsibilities, take risks at leadership, become more open-minded and reflect on their choices.
Former West Charlotte IB Students testify that the level of writing and speaking practiced in IB courses prepared them for the academic writing, speaking, and study skills expected in their college courses.
Contrary to popular belief or opinion, IB is not a program designed or restricted to smart kids. IB is an opportunity for students who desire a quality education that focuses on preparing them for life.
Parents will notice that IB students write and read more thought-provoking content, are trained to ask and respond to more challenging questions, are equipped to solve more complex problems, and develop the writing, reading, and speaking skills that are proven to benefit them in higher education and as future professionals.
Students study a curriculum that enables them to make connections between courses, content, ideas and skills taught in every subject.
Students complete inquiry/ interest-based learning projects such as the 10th grade Middle Years Personal Project and develop 11th-12th grade Creative Active Service Activities that enable students to lead their learning experience, initiate ideas, collaborate with other IB students, build self-advocacy, conduct independent research, make decisions, problem solve and reflect on their learning outcomes. Examples of projects students have done include starting a book club, starting a True Crime Club, creating a clothing charity, volunteering at foodbanks, community service with other organizations.
IB students build a supportive and caring community of learners and form friendships by progressing through the same four-year learning experience.
There are over 8,000 IB Programs offered worldwide, across over 5,700 schools in 159 countries. West Charlotte High Scholars are among scholars worldwide who study an international curriculum that focuses on international mindedness and global awareness.
