NO SCHOOL TODAY IN OBSERVANCE OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR HOLIDAY
Today, students reviewed background knowledge on our feature author, the first African-American writer, Paul Laurence Dunbar. After reviewing key details from his life, students began reading one of his most notable works, The Boy and the Bayonet
, by identifying the following:
what is the name of each character mentioned in the scene? What do we know about them?
How are they described? How do they interact with the other characters? What does that
reveal about their own character?
(Scene 1 Interactions): What big event is coming up? How do the characters feel about this event? How do the characters’ feelings about the event add suspense to the story?
point-of-view (Scene 1): What is each character’s point of view about the chances of Bud’s company “A” winning the drills during the conversation in the kitchen?
point-of-view (Scene 2): How do the beginning of the drills impact Hannah and “little sister”? How does this description add suspense to the story?
Students also reviewed the Performance Task for Module 3 and its requirements. We will continue to revisit the Performance Task and begin working to create drafts within the next few days. The due date for the Performance Task is: February 19, 2020. All students are advised to begin taking a close look at the assignment and begin thinking about how to prioritize working to complete their drafts at least 2 weeks prior. This will ensure sufficient time to make revisions and re-submit.
I have included the link to today's PowerPoint for your review:
