So, what can you expect this year and the 7th Grade EL Curriculum EL "experience"?
The texts and activities for this year's curriculum include both fiction and nonfiction texts and serve as a "portal" to the perspectives of diverse characters. The books selected for Grade 7 take students on a journey through southern Sudan from achild’s point of view during and aftercivil war, to exploring the history of medical epidemics and focus on people’s mindsets and contributions, and how they behaved differently from those around themacross the globe and through history chasing epidemics, through Harlem in the 1920s and ’30s, and back around the globe in pursuit of plastic pollution and its solutions.
By the end of the school year, through work with these books and related texts, students will be more effective, more strategic, and more joyful readers.
Welcome to Ms. Pressley's 7th Grade ELA Class...
Greetings GVSA Scholars, Parents, and Guardians to the 2021-2022 School Year!!
I would like to introduce myself as your scholar’s 7th grade English Language Arts Teacher and a new member of the Governor’s Village STEM Academy (Upper Campus) Family. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with your scholar this year. I am a native of Sumter, SC; located approximately 30 minutes outside of Columbia. I completed my undergraduate studies in Modern Languages and English at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC. I also hold an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from The University of Maryland University College.
This is my 2nd year at "The Village", and I am looking forward to AMAZING things that will be taking place this year. To ensure everyone one has authentic and life-lasting learning experiences, we will do our very best to uphold class and school expectations. In our classroom, scholars will behave appropriately, encompassing respect for themselves, their peers, and teachers and staff. Scholars will work hard EVERYDAY to master the content and skills needed to complete 7th grade English Language Arts and beyond. Our classroom will be framed by the theme, “My success is my responsibility".
Aside my role of teaching, I am the proud parent of two sons; Cameron (16) and Chase (11). In addition to learning about my family and myself, take a look at a list of (some) of my "favs" below:
