About Me

My name is Lindsey DeRosa and I am originally from Greenville, South Carolina. I currently live in Rock Hill, just a little ways past Carowinds! This will be my 10th year teaching; the first four years were in South Carolina and the remaining have been at Vance, now Julius L. Chambers in CMS. I received my BA degree in Mathematics with a minor in Social Sciences, as well as my Master of Arts in Teaching from Winthrop University. We are still undefeated in our league for football, Go Eagles! In my spare time, I love to spend time with husband exploring National Parks, taking our dog Sadie out for adventures, playing board games, and binge watching my favorite shows. My passion for teaching has evolved from numerous educators I had growing up. I truly believe that one teacher can make or break a class and it is my hope to be that one for my students to help grow their goals and help them achieve their own success.

Some questions students have asked about me...

Do I like Math?

I would fairly say that as I was growing up and learning Math, I definitely had a love/hate relationship with the subject. Math didn't always come easy to me; I definitely had times that I struggled to learn a concept or pick up on the pattern of how to do something. It took a lot of practice and willingness to put in the time to make sure I understood. Plus, I was always in my teachers' classes or professors' offices asking questions. I would suggest if you're having a hard time or even if there's only one problem giving you a hard time, just reach out and ask.

Did you want to pursue anything but math?

For me, I knew I wanted to teach first and later picked math to be the subject. It was either going to be between Math or Biology. I had a Marine Biology class my senior year of high school and it was the best class. My teacher, Mrs. Paouris, was everything an amazing teacher should be and showed us how awesome life underwater could be. In the end, I was more motivated and felt like I would be better suited to be a math teacher.

What would you be if you weren't a math teacher?

I've thought about switching over and becoming a Guidance Counselor. One of the aspects I love about being a teacher is being a mentor and helping students reach their goals. I don't always get to see the end result of my students accomplishing their goals, but if I can help them move towards their goals, I'll do anything that I can.

How many digits of pi do you know?

I know five digits of pi after the decimal. 3.14159 At some point it was more than that, but you really only need to know 3.14 to do estimated calculations.

Do you have any kids?

I currently have almost 90 kids. Biologically, I have none. I do have one fur baby, Sadie. She is a boykin spaniel.

Are you mean?

See previous question. You are my academic child and as such, I will be tough on you. Some might consider it mean, some might consider it annoying. My goal is and always will be to help make you the best person you can be. Keep that in mind when you might catch yourself thinking I'm "mean".

Turkey or ham?

Ham. I don't really like turkey, even on Thanksgiving.

Do I like avocados?

Yes. Specifically in guacamole or sushi.
