Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How will my student know where to go on the first day of school?
We have staff members stationed throughout the hallways with master homeroom lists. We will direct students to enter the building, stop by the cafe to pick up free breakfast if they would like it, and then report to their grade level hallway. The QHMS Staff Members at the entrance to each hallway will direct students to their homeroom classroom.
Students who attend the "Meet the Teachers" Event on August 19th will already know where to go to find their Homeroom.
To reduce crowding, parents/guardians are NOT permitted to walk students to class on the first day of school.
When will my student receive their Chromebook?
We plan to issue Chromebooks to students the first week of school. Students will have Chromebooks available in all their classes to support learning.
I lost the bus sticker. How can I check my students' bus information?
Don't worry! Click on the Ridership Form. Enter your students' ID# and last name. Scroll to the bottom to see your student's current bus information.
How does morning arrival work?
Students may arrive at QHMS between 8:45 and 9:15.
Walkers: There are crossing guards at Park Road and across from our main entrance on Smithfield Church Road. Walkers should walk to school on the sidewalk and use the paved pathway to approach the building. They should wait to cross the carpool lane until an adult stops traffic for them.
Car Riders: Cars should enter the Visitor Parking Lot and follow the flow of traffic to drop off their student in front of the main entrance to the building. The Visitor Parking Lot is the second parking lot from Park Road (coming from Park Road, you will drive by the fields, the bus parking lot, the school building, and then arrive at the Visitor Parking Lot).
Bus Riders: Buses will drop students off in the bus parking lot at the entrance to the D-Hallway. Staff members will be there to greet and direct them.
We have a one-way traffic pattern in the main hallway in the morning. Students who would like free breakfast should pick it up from the cafeteria BEFORE reporting to their Homeroom class.
How does dismissal work?
We make an all-call announcement at the end of the day with important updates and to begin the dismissal procedure.
Teachers will let students know it is OK to check their personal technology devices to see if they have received any messages from parents/guardians regarding their plan to get home.
Teachers will display the electronic Afternoon Bulletin on the board. Walkers will be dismissed in waves to exit the building without overcrowding. Car Riders are dismissed individually as their names are displayed on the Afternoon Bulletin in the order their cars are lined up at the front of the buiding. Bus Riders are dismissed by bus, also displayed on the Afternoon Bulletin.
Students participating in Sports or After-School Clubs should remain in their classroom until an announcement is made to dismiss them.
