Captain Ira G. Witherspoon Jr. is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, and he attended Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools System. He served the city of Charlotte for 26 years as a member of the Charlotte Fire Department. After retirement, the next chapter in his life led him to pursue his passion to positively impact the lives of youth. Captain Witherspoon decided to become NC licensed teacher, working as a Business Education instructor at Cochrane Collegiate Academy-iMeck Academy from 2013-2019. Currently, he serves as an instructor and the chairperson of the Public Safety Department at Military, Global Leadership and Public Safety Academy.

Captain Witherspoon earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Gardner Webb University and Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University.
