Sharon Okoye is a dynamic STEM educator, author, and the founder of STEM Champions Academy, an innovative program dedicated to expanding access to high-quality science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education for students. With a passion for hands-on learning and real-world problem solving, she designs programs that empower students to think critically, innovate boldly, and see themselves as future leaders in STEM fields.
As a middle school science teacher, Sharon integrates inquiry-based instruction, engineering design, and research-driven learning into her classroom. Her students have gained national recognition, most notably winning the NASA TechRise National Competition, an achievement earned by only 60 schools out of more than 750 applicants across the United States and its territories. Through this opportunity, her students collaborated with engineers to build a radiation detector that was successfully launched into space.
Sharon currently serves as a Director and Defense STEM Ambassador for the 2025–2026 school year, representing North Carolina and working to connect students with advanced STEM opportunities and career pathways. Her work focuses on equity, ensuring that students from all backgrounds have access to transformative STEM experiences.
In addition to her work in education, Sharon is a published author of two books that support STEM learning and mentorship. Her publications provide practical guidance for students and educators, combining real-world applications with engaging, student-centered approaches.
Through STEM Champions Academy, speaking engagements, and her writing, Sharon Okoye continues to inspire the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and changemakers.
